NMN has a strong protective effect on intestinal health

The human intestinal mucosa covers an area of 200 to 300 square meters, equivalent to the size of three football fields, and contains 10 trillion different symbiotic microorganisms, known as the "microbiota."

A research team from Jiangsu University in China published a report in the Swiss nutrition magazine Frontiers in Nutrition. They found that NMN can reduce intestinal mucosal permeability and exert a protective effect on the intestine by regulating intestinal flora.

In the study, researchers gave mice different concentrations of NMN for 15 weeks and found that the abundance of "good" gut microbes increased while the levels of harmful bacteria decreased.

One of the surprising things is that the abundance of beneficial intestinal flora has increased, such as butyric acid bacteria and AKK bacteria.

Butyric acid bacteria in the intestine can produce a large amount of butyric acid and play an important role in maintaining intestinal flora homeostasis and intestinal epithelial integrity.

Butyric acid is the main energy source for intestinal mucosal cells. It can promote intestinal mucosal repair and functional recovery, inhibit the formation of inflammatory cytokines, and play an anti-inflammatory effect.

In addition, to analyze the effect of NMN treatment on intestinal mucosal permeability, the researchers measured the concentration of FITC dextran using fluorescence. In vivo imaging results showed that FD4 leakage was significantly increased in the DSS group compared with other groups (Figure A).

Compared with the DSS group, significant (P<0.01) and slight (P<0.05) decreases in FD4 concentration were observed in the N+D and D+N groups.

The anabolism of specific bile acids in the body helps reduce bacterial colonization and maintain intestinal health. In this study, bile acid-related metabolites and other beneficial metabolites were significantly increased in the feces of mice taking NMN.

Studies have shown that long-term use of NMN also reduces the permeability of the intestinal mucosa, increases the expression of tight junction proteins and promotes mucus secretion, maintaining the integrity of the intestinal epithelium.

This significantly improves the integrity of the intestinal mucosal barrier and protects the intestines. Overall, NMN has a strong protective effect on intestinal health.
