In 1904, British biochemists Arthur Harden and William John Young first discovered NAD+.

He purified the components required for the reaction to produce NAD from yeast cells and combined them together in an experimental setup, demonstrating that a chemical reaction pool could be used to generate NAD from the precursor molecule Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN).

In 1958, Jack Preiss and Philip Handler discovered the pathway through which niacin is converted to NAD, known as the Priess Handler pathway.

Development stage (mid-20th century to early 21st century):

During this period, research on NAD+and related substances continued to deepen, gradually revealing their important roles in cellular metabolism, energy production, and other aspects. However, NMN products have not yet entered the market.
